Technology and Teaching

In the ongoing search to find new and better ways to teach and distribute information, I am going to share three types of technology that I have recently begun using.

Flipboard is a social-network aggregation, magazine-format app for Android and iOS.  It collects the content of social media and other websites and presents it in magazine format and allows users to “flip” through their social-networking feeds and feeds from websites that have partnered with the company.  Flipboard was originally designed for the iPad, but can be used on all mobile platforms.

The app recently added a feature which allows a user to make an online, Flipboard “magazine” with information from the web.  I used this feature to consolidate all of my recruiting posts in one location.  If you have the app, you can click on the image below to get to my “magazine“.  If you do not have the app, you can click on the image below which will allow you do download the app and get to my recruiting “magazine“.

This format makes it easy to navigate through the various recruiting posts from my youcandomore.net site.  Although the post are all in one place, they are are not in the order I would prefer; the most recent post is on the first page and the oldest on the last page.  I cannot currently change the order, but Flipboard said that they are working on implementing that function soon.

There are currently 17 posts about recruiting contained in my Flipboard “magazine” Wanted … and Rewarded, with more posts coming this week.

Tactilize is a program that allows users to publish “Cards” which are essentially online, single page eBooks.   I used the program to create my You Can Do More! card below, which consolidates much of the Core Lift information about our workout (A Weekly (not weakly!) Workout) in one location.  Cllicking on the image will take you to the card.  Once there, links will allow you to get video, a textual description about each lift, and a direct link to the blog post explaining the lift.  There are also links that enable you to download the Excel workout templates.  Although the cards are designed for the iPad or other mobile devices, the card works equally well on a computer.

Squidoo is an online platform that allows users to publish “Lenses” that focus on a specific topic.  You can click on the image below to visit my Squidoo Lens – You Can Do More!  The lens not only has strength and conditioning information from my blog, but other blogs, news feeds, twitter posts, and related amazon books.

I would be interested in your feedback (email or comment) about these platforms.
